Things To Do

Beaches

Aberporth

Dolwen, the smaller of the two beaches at Aberporth. This is the one patrolled by lifeguards and does not allow dogs during the summer months.

Llangrannog

Llangranog is a quaint seaside village nestled in a deep valley.

Mwnt Beach

Mwnt beach is a beautiful sandy cove just a few miles north of Cardigan, voted number 1 in the Daily Mail’s list of “Europe’s top ten loveliest, hidden beaches”. It is a National Trust Beach with plenty of parking, and is a good place to spot dolphins.

Activities

Water Sports

There are lots of water activities you can do such as fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, coasteering, body boarding and surfing or just splashing about in the waves.

Wildlife Watching

A diverse range of wildlife can be spotted along the coast or inland, including seabirds, seals, red kites, kingfishers, and even a rare glimpse of a sea otter. The Cardigan Bay coastline has the largest population of dolphins in Europe which can often be seen close to the shore at Aberporth. Our first guests in "By The Sea" saw them through the window while sitting having breakfast in November.

Cardigan

As well as the beautiful natural landscape, there are plenty of great man-made places to visit ranging from towns, villages and castles. There are also attractions such the New Quay Honey Farm, Oakwood Theme Park, and a recreated Iron Age Fort- Castell Henllys, to mention just a few.

Local Events

December Lantern Parade in Cardigan

There are a surprising number of events that take place in the area; The Lantern Parade, in particular, is unique and spectacular.  The Small World Theatre in Cardigan arranges lantern-building workshops which are later paraded down the high street in the evening. The light of the lanterns provides a wonderful atmosphere enjoyed by the hundreds of people who spectate. Cardigan holds other special events such as Barley Saturday (27th April 2019), a horse fair where stallions are run through the town.

Sand Art - Various locations

This area is full of arts and crafts, with a well-known pottery and art studio just above Aberporth. One particularly spectacular artist, Marc Treanor (http://www.sandcircles.co.uk/) is known for creating huge and beautiful sand art on different beaches in the area. They appear randomly, like crop circles. The one above appeared on Aberporth Beach in January 2019 and his video pans the bay, showing The Beach House nestled in the background, at https://www.facebook.com/sandcirclesuk/videos/2074396005954230/

Boxing Day Dip

Aberporth itself hosts several events through the year including The Boxing Day Dip which attracts hundreds of people, both participants and spectators. <br> The other winter event is the fireworks around Bonfire night. These are set up on the sand of the larger of the Aberporth Beaches, and people come in from near and far to stand around this natural amphitheatre to watch the magnificent display.
